Launched
over two decades ago as an international event to cater for a fledgling market
of computers and business communications, CommTel has, in line with market demands,
introduced business equipment, mobile phones and internet providers into its comprehensive
show portfolio.
Annually
CommTel brings together the leading suppliers of information technology, both
hard- and software, for both home and business, as well as leading suppliers
of other office and home office equipment and furniture. Indeed, whether one
is looking to work from home, discover what pc is best for family use, or to
equip or refurbish a company office, CommTel is the one-stop shop to discover
the new and innovative products and services.
The
Market
Saudi Arabia’s rapid population
growth, increasingly younger consumers (40 percent of the population is in the
15-34 age group and 38% under the age of 14) and ever higher disposable incomes
are providing continuing strong demand for all things electronic; demand that
crosses between the work place and home as well as business and pleasure.
Overall, the Saudi Information
Technology market is the fastest growing in the Gulf Region. The value of the
Saudi market exceeded US$7 billion in 2007, accounting for more than half of the
Gulf’s overall technology spend. Similarly the Kingdom has the largest and
fastest growing market in the Middle East for telecommunications.
Mobile phone utilization has sky
rocketed and is growing at an astronomical rate.
Forecasts of mobile phone users and
internet subscribers alone indicate that the number of both will at least double
over the next few years, with broadband subscribers increasing by more than
six-fold from an estimated 90,000 in 2006 to 575,000 by 2011. This increased
demand for business computing, communications, education and the internet is
providing unprecedented opportunities for companies offering goods and services
in all such areas, in one of the largest markets, and more importantly the
fastest growing, in the Middle East.
